The evening primrose (Oenothera biennis)

The evening primrose is a wild plant and was originally native to North America. The tribal physicians of the North American Indians already knew about the diverse uses of the plant: They used it, among other things, to treat skin diseases and painful breathing problems. Today it is spread across the entire continent and made its way to Europe in the 17th century. First introduced as an ornamental plant, it was quickly released into the wild and spread rapidly.

Currently, the oil from the seeds is particularly valued for its content of polyunsaturated fatty acids - especially gamma linolenic acid.
