Inulin is a natural dietary fibre with a slighlty sweet taste. It is mainly extracted from chicory root. It is found in onions and garlic but only in very small quantities. Inulin consists of many sugar building blocks and can be compared to starch. Inulin, however, is a dietary fibre that is not broken down in the stomach and intestine. It first get broken down in the colon.

As Inulin is not broken down it is very low in calories (1 kcal/g). It is the perfect ingredient for the preparation of low-calorie wellness drinks.

Powdered Inulin is easily soluble in water and can be used in many baking recipes to increase the fibre content in food. It is used to improve the creamy mouthfeel of low fat foods.
